Fashion at the Salon du Chocolat

by in Europe, Food, France

When we got there the line was extraordinarily long. We were at the Salon Du Chocolat, which in English means the festival of chocolate. Everyone got there at the same time, after lunch. After waiting for about a half an hour, we got inside and what we found was a chocolate trade-show. It was a mammoth room with sixty or so booths. There were 59 booths selling one thing: chocolate. The other sold what looked like a pastry at first glance, but I’ll get to that later. But before we ate, we saw a dance performance from all the places that made chocolate. Well, “saw” isn’t really the right word, “saw between glimpses of shifting heads” is probably fitting. We continued watching tall parts of the dance until it was over. As people moved out, Carter and I squirmed in because next there would be a chocolate fashion show. All the top designers team up with the top chocolatiers to make, yes that’s right, fashion. All the models had their own song and modeled while it played, some even threw chocolate. The first came out in a skirt and vest shirt, and a little handbag, another with moveable cloth wings and a swirl pattern mini gown. A different model came out with a chocolate cage, another came out and looked like a bat. Not in a bad way though. She looked like a bat because she had electronic glowing wings, that moved around. Then, a model came out in a navy blue dress, with a huge layered white chocolate pearl necklace. She was throwing chocolate and threw one to me! One model came out and had a big ball gown on, made of the sacs people ship cocoa beans in. One of the models was a boy, and came out as a chocolate Spartan to the song I’ve got a Feeling! Last came a model that we thought was being pushed on stage and her dress was on wheels. We thought that because her skirt was at least 2 ½ yards wide if not more, and she got stuck coming out. After her, everyone came out with their designers and chocolate makers and started dancing to I’ve got a Feeling. While all the models walked off stage and everyone was getting up and stretching, I analyzed the performance. I thought some dresses were elegant, such as the navy blue dress, I thought some were very strange, like the bat and the giant skirt, and others just crazy, like the Spartan. Over all I thought that the ideas were innovative, funky and definitely new. After that we walked all over the room, buying and tasting chocolate. The place that didn’t make chocolate, made pink pies, that were amazing! As I was walking around I noticed that lots of places in addition to making bon-bons and chocolate bars, sculpted chocolate too. One place made chocolate heads, another made bonsai trees, another phones and mice, and another watches and ornaments. We continued walking around until we found a florist. The florist sold flowers with petals that were made of candy coated almonds and had bon-bons attached to them, I bought a yellow one. We had a fantastic time, and mom bought a poster so we would never forget, Le Salon Du Chocolat.
