Fashion Finds Us

by in Europe, France

Anyone who knows me knows that I am as far from fashionable as one can get. My wardrobe consists of practical solids and classic cuts which give no hint of the decade in which they were designed. Anyone who knows Katherine and her extraordinary sense of style wonders how we two can possibly be genetically linked. Earlier this week, we were strolling along when Katherine spotted a real-life fashion shoot on the banks of the Seine. She walked over, watched, and came back with her own pictures exclaiming "Mom, did you see her shoes?!"  I hadn't. Then today as we were strolling through the Madeleine neighborhood near our apartment, we happened upon an incredibly chic store filled to the brim with bright colors, crazy patterns, and avant-garde everything. Left to my own devices, I would have marveled at the window displays and walked on by. With Katherine leading the way, however, we soon found ourselves inside this Technicolor boutique. Russ and Carter stoically surveyed the premises while I poured over fabric care and content labels. Katherine, for her part, flitted about like a hummingbird in a meadow full of flowers in springtime. With some innate and infallible sense, she moved from room to room critically assessing each and every collection. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with several pieces, and even less time for Russ to acquiesce. Who knew there could be so much style in so small a package?
